Christmas Pudding Myths and Legends ...........
Christmas puddings are traditionally made with 13 ingredients to represent Christ and the 12 apostles.
Brandy is poured on the pudding and lit to form a halo of flames which represents Christs passion. The sprig of holly on top represents the crown of thorns, as well as symbolising protection against evil.
The silver charms added to the Christmas pudding mix also have their own meaning. To find the threepenny piece means wealth, the ring signifies marriage within 12 months, the thimble indicates spinsterhood and the button bachelorhood.
The heaviest Christmas pudding on record was made on July 11 1992 by the villagers of Aughton, Lancashire, weighing in at a whopping 3.28 tonnes.
